Student Profile: Bessie McGaffin
Bessie is studying her Advanced Diploma in Agribusiness Management as part of the UNE Bachelor of Agricultural Production and Management. Coming from a small beef enterprise
in Wodonga VIC Bessie now lives on campus at UNE and loves college life.
Upon completion of her training, Bessie wants to work with large-scale beef productions in Northern Australia
and use her knowledge of precision Ag technologies to increase production and profit. Why does Bessie love
to live on the land? The lifestyle is good, but the people are GREAT!

RuralBiz Out & About
One of the key experiences we offer students who are part of our face to face training on campus at UNE is to visit
a wide variety of farms and agribusiness to create industry connections and undertake in-depth learning in
key areas. This past month our students visited the Dutton Trout Hatchery to learn about aquaculture.
Students then travelled to the Ogilvie family farm in Wongwibinda to learn about their commercial beef and Dorset
sheep stud operations. Aside from the great learning experience, it was fantastic for our students, especially
the international students to experience some real Australian country hospitality and kindness. Thank you to
Ogilvie family for your warm welcome.
Thinking about a GAP year in 2019?
We are putting together some unit packages with GAP year students in mind that could also feed into our integrated
Bachelor of Agricultural Production and Management. If you or someone you know would be interested in doing
some GAP year training in 2019 please contact us for more information on 02 6884 8812 or via email.

Well, we didn't think it would ever actually happen but RuralBiz Training founder Kathy Sims has announced her
retirement!
A few words from Kathy:
As this is the last newsletter before I retire on 31 August, I want to say a big thank you to all of you who have been an important part of my life. My connections with some of you date back to Orange Agricultural College in the 1980s, others to my time in rural financial counselling in the 1990s/early 2000s.
Many of you have supported RuralBiz Training since we launched it in 2002. RuralBiz Training is the product of what each and every one of you has taught me, and I am deeply grateful for the rich learning I have had from you. Thank you very much!
Thanks also to our wonderful team of staff and trainers. It’s good to know that RuralBiz Training is continuing in your hands as part of Academies Australasia.
I only wish I could make it rain over the drought areas before I leave…
Kathy's depth of knowledge, passion and fierce dedication will be sorely missed by everyone at RuralBiz and
we all wish her the very best for her retirement.
Kathy will still be working on our international programs through an association with Academies Australasia Institute.
If you would like to send a farewell message please email admin@ruralbiztraining.com.au or via post PO Box 524, Dubbo NSW, 2830
