Steven McAlister

After working for 20 years on a cotton farm outside of Wee Waa, Steven McAlister has gained great experience in a variety of ‘hands-on’ roles.

With his experience, Steven is one of his employers’ most valuable employees, yet despite this, he decided he would like to increase his skill-set by undertaking a Diploma of Agriculture through RuralBiz Training.

“I’ve been on the farm for 20 years but in that time I’ve only been doing hands-on work,” Steven said.

“Undertaking some training was about getting more information and a greater understanding on some of the things I haven’t worked on before.”

Through the Diploma of Agriculture, Steven got a thorough introduction to a number of topics equally important to the farm work he has been doing for the past 20 years.

“I was able to learn more about the bookwork and the research side of farming,” Steven said.

“And a number of other business aspects and the OHS (Occupational Health & Safety) systems so that was really good.
