Hi, I’m Andrew and live on a farm in central NSW which runs a mixture of sheep, cattle and crop. After completing year 12 I was looking for a course to further my agricultural knowledge and discovered RuralBiz who were offering a Regional and Remote Scholarship to study a diploma of Agriculture through their online platform. After becoming honoured with receiving one of the very few places in the scholarship program I spent the next 2 years completing my diploma from home while working part-time.
This was one of the best experiences I could’ve hoped for coming out of school. My learning program was super flexible with large extensions being easily available for the busier times of the year, allowing me to get out into the work force while studying. Through my studies I was also able to build a large amount of industry connections, who were all more than happy to answer any questions I had which arose from my assignments or course content. The staff at RuralBiz also made it an absolute pleasure to study with them. Everyone I came into contact with was very friendly and all of my trainers were always happy to answer any question I had. The guardian angel program was also amazing and I highly valued having someone who would regularly check in to see how I was doing with my studies.
Going forward after the completion of the Diploma of Agriculture I will be aiming to continue picking up a lot of casual work with local famers and contractors which will include jobs in the sheep and cropping industry. These experiences coupled with the valuable knowledge I learnt during my studies will continue to help better equip me for when I come back to the family farm full time.
