Age: 28

Location: Tully, QLD

Course(s) Studied: Diploma of Agriculture

Hi, My name is Emily Probitts, I’m from a small town called Tully in Far North Queensland. We have a population of about 3000 people and rainfall averaging 3800ml per year. We are arguably the wettest town in Australia.

Tullys main industries are Banana’s and Sugarcane.

My back ground is that I have been employed at our local bank part time for 8 years and I have also worked labouring for a banana farm on and off.

I have always had an interest in pursuing a career in agriculture but I didn’t know where to start.

We have finally been able to purchase some of our own land 132 acres which was very run down, slowly we are doing the property up with future plans to farm our land eventually. We will be mainly cattle but we will see where this agriculture diploma takes me. Last year we purchased alpacas and my girls (3&4yrs old) just absolutely adore them as do the rest of the locals and travellers!

I am very humbled and excited to receive this scholarship it means a lot!

Thank you and I am looking forward to studying with Ruralbiz Training now and in the future.

Emily is a RuralBiz Training Rural and Regional Scholarship awardee.
