  • Participant fee - $480 per skillset. These skillsets are usually valued between $2,000 - $6,000.

  • Community Coordination and Facilitation

    Specially designed for Landcare facilitators who work in agricultural communities this skillset is designed to improve your community coordination and facilitation skills. You will develop a range of useful skills including the basics in soil testing and interpretation, workplace health and safety within agricultural systems, budget monitoring and reporting, and helping your Landcare group identify local environmental or land management issues, facilitate the development of priorities, goals and projects. You will also learn about navigating change affecting your Landcare group from voluntary initiatives or legislative requirements.

    This course covers the following nationally accredited units:

    • AHCSOL406 Sample soils and interpret results
    • AHCWHS502 Manage workplace health and safety processes
    • AHCBUS518 Prepare and monitor budgets and financial reports
    • AHCCCF502 Facilitate the development of group goals and projects
    • AHCCCF504 Support Group and community changes in resource management

  • Healthy Soils

    Soil health is fundamental to production systems – in this skillset, you will develop the skills and knowledge required to undertake soil sampling, interpret test results, research soil information, apply soil testing information to your production or management plan, develop and monitor soil amendment practices, review and document soil management plan.

    This course covers the following nationally accredited units:

    • AHCSOL406 Sample soils and interpret results
    • AHCSOL505 Monitor and manage soils for production
  • Livestock Production

    Get the best out of your livestock production systems by developing the skills and knowledge required to establish production targets and develop and review production plans for livestock, develop and implement preventative health treatment and welfare strategies for animals, assess breeding requirements, select livestock for breeding, and monitor and evaluate the breeding program.

    This course covers the following nationally accredited units:

    • AHCLSK510 Develop production plans for livestock
    • AHCLSK504 Develop livestock health and welfare strategies
    • AHCLSK509 Develop and implement a breeding strategy
  • Crop Production

    Equip yourself for optimal crop results by mastering skills to gather information for weed, pest, and disease control planning. Learn to devise long-term control strategies, contribute to planning processes, establish scheduling and responsibilities, monitor, adjust, and evaluate strategies, and document outcomes. Additionally, gain expertise in selecting and establishing species and varieties, determining yield potential and quality specifications, creating crop or pasture programs, and reviewing production plans. Develop a foundational understanding of plant biology, encompassing taxonomy, morphology, and physiology, to apply across agronomic practices.

    This course covers the following nationally accredited units:

    • AHCBAC509 Plan and manage long-term weed, pest and disease control in crops
    • AHCBAC512 Develop production plans for crops
    • AHCBAC513 Apply plant biology to agronomic practices
  • Farm Business Management

    Identify, evaluate and review your farm business performance – understand the useful tools for measuring, key financial indicators and non-financial performance. Develop an understanding of how to prepare and monitor budgets and produce financial reports - you will deep dive into cash flow budgets, gross margins, enterprise budgets, monitoring and reporting on budgets.

    This course covers the following nationally accredited units:

    • AHCBUS516 Develop and review a business plan
    • AHCBUS517 Monitor and review business performance
    • AHCBUS518 Prepare and monitor budgets and financial reports
  • Farm Planning

    Farm Planning is an opportunity for you to take a holistic view of your farm and your business. The emphasis is on identifying and improving your natural resources which will provide the foundation for good farm health and sustainability. This is a single-unit skillset that requires you to review your current farm operations and plan for the future. You will conduct an audit of your farm water, soils, infrastructure, vegetation and habitat, land capability and enterprises.

    This course covers the following nationally accredited units:

    • AHCAGB513 Develop a farm plan
  • What to expect when you study with RuralBiz

    Our courses are self-paced and online, so you have a lot of control over when you complete your study and how quickly you move through your units. The standard unit duration is 8 weeks, but you can request extensions of up to another 8 weeks per unit to help manage your course load with peak production cycles on your farm and your busy life.

    All of these skillsets contain nationally accredited units – so you have the option to continue your study by transitioning into a Diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness Management or Community Coordination and Facilitation.

    You will have a Guardian Angel check in with you throughout your study to make sure you are on track and to help resolve any issues that may arise. We also have a Literacy support team if you need extra help with spelling, grammar or numeracy.

  • Entry Requirements

    General Enrty Requirements

    All participants must:

    • Live or work in Victoria
    • Be 16 or older and have left school
    • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or visa holder with unlimited study rights
    • Complete a Literacy and Numeracy assessment as part of the enrolment process
    • Be actively involved in farming or a Landcare group as outlined below

    Community Coordination - Entry Requirements

    You must have access to a Landcare group that is connected to an agricultural community to base your assessment tasks on. This group will become a case study for your assignments. The tasks will vary for each unit but include things like testing and interpreting soils, reviewing WHS practices for your group and facilitating goal development and planning with your group.

    Farmer Skillsets - Entry Requirements

    You must have access to a farm that operates on a commercial scale that you can base your assessment tasks on. Your chosen farm will become a case study for your assignments. The tasks will vary for each unit but include things like testing and interpreting your soils, developing and reviewing your farm business plan and analysing your production systems. Participants will be encouraged to connect with their local Landcare network, if not already connected.
